Wash & Care Instructions

Wool felt made from 100% New Zealand wool is naturally durable and easy to care for. The fiber’s lanolin (natural wool oil) and the dense felt structure help repel liquids and dirt. That means most spills sit on the surface long enough to blot—no harsh cleaning needed.

Water-repellent ≠ waterproof: wool resists light moisture but will absorb water if soaked. Avoid prolonged soaking and high heat.

Routine Care (All Products)

  • Dust & Lint: Shake outdoors or vacuum weekly using a smooth nozzle (no brush). A lint roller removes hair and fine fibers.

  • Pilling: Normal with natural wool. Remove gently with a sweater comb/lint remover—do not shave aggressively.

  • Odours: Air the item in a shaded, breezy spot. Sprinkle baking soda, leave 30–60 minutes, then vacuum.

  • Sunlight: Prolonged direct sun may fade colours. Use indirect light and rotate rugs regularly.

Spot-Cleaning Guide

  1. Act fast: Blot (don’t rub) with a dry, white cloth to absorb as much as possible.

  2. Cold water test: If needed, dab with cold water.

  3. Mild solution: Mix a few drops of wool-safe, pH-neutral detergent in cold water. Lightly dab from the outside of the stain toward the centre.

  4. Rinse: Dab with clean cold water to remove residue.

  5. Dry: Press with a dry towel, then air-dry flat. Reshape gently.

  6. Steam (optional): A brief pass of cool–warm steam from a safe distance helps lift fibers and restore shape. Do not soak.

  7. Multicolour items (e.g., felt-ball rugs): Avoid soaking or overall washing to prevent colour transfer. Always test any solution on a hidden area first.

Deeper Cleaning

  • Rugs & Large Pieces: We recommend professional dry cleaning by a cleaner experienced with wool. Avoid immersion washing for multi-colour rugs.

  • Small Single-Colour Items (certain slippers, trivets):

    • Hand wash, only if necessary. Use cold water and a small amount of wool-safe detergent.

    • Submerge briefly, very gentle squeeze (no rubbing).

    • Rinse in cold water.

    • Do not wring. Press in a towel to remove excess water.

    • Reshape and air-dry flat away from heat and sun.

  • Never tumble-dry wool felt.

Stain Help

    • Liquids (water, juice, coffee, tea): Blot immediately → cold water dab → mild wool-wash solution → blot dry → air-dry.

    • Wine: Blot; sprinkle salt or baking soda to draw out moisture; vacuum gently when dry; finish with mild wool-wash dab and rinse.

    • Oil/Grease/Makeup: Sprinkle cornstarch or talc; let sit 1–2 hours; brush/vacuum off; finish with a tiny amount of wool-safe detergent solution; rinse dab.

    • Mud: Let dry completely, then brush/vacuum off; spot-clean residue as above.

    • Pet accidents: Blot thoroughly; dab with cool water; then a wool-safe enzymatic cleaner per label; rinse dab and air-dry.

    • Wax/Chewing gum: Chill with an ice pack in a bag; gently lift off pieces; residue can be eased with a little wool-safe detergent solution.

    • Avoid home remedies with bleach, peroxide, or high-alkaline cleaners—they damage wool and can strip natural lanolin.
